Platinum/Palladium Printing Masterclass Program
Your Voice, Your Vision, Your Craft
Do you feel fully connected to your artwork? Are you bringing your unique vision to every photograph? Is your craft everything you want it to be?
My goal with this masterclass program is to help you to unlock your voice and bring it into your artwork. Together we will work on all aspects of your printing and related darkroom work. We will go as deep or as wide as you need. Whether it’s materials, process or technique; nothing is off limits.
The program is structured as a series of weekend workshops in my darkroom, in Basel, Switzerland. The content of each workshop is tailored to your needs and priorities. Between the workshops you will have time to reflect, practice your skills, and decide where you want to go next.
Most students will benefit from four to six workshops, spread over four to six months. The number of workshops is, of course, up to you.
Some of the many possible topics are:
- Making the best film negatives for platinum/palladium printing
- Printing from collodion negatives or dry plates
- Choosing the right materials for your artwork
- Optimising the developing-out process for your vision
- Optimising the printing-out process for your vision
- A 'deep-dive' into chemistry and humidity
- Making ferric oxalate
- Print finishing, including spotting to fix minor defects
You can pick and mix topics as needed to bring you the new approaches you need. I will try to answer any question you have.
We will work long hours, but there will be plenty of time to talk about the creative process, and how you can bring your photography to the next level. For example:

I work with a maximum of three students per year, so places are limited.
