One thing I love about making nudes is that each one involves working with a person. And that each creative partnership brings a new story.
Here is Georgina, for example; a beautiful and fragile young woman. We worked together only twice, but she left a permanent impression on me. Last I heard, Georgina had moved to Canada to start a new life. I wish her well.
And here is Katie. What can I say about Katie other than, “Wow!” Katie was vivacious, full of life, and filled my studio with energy. We had a creative partnership for eighteen months, during which she really pushed me to test the boundaries of my work. I love this picture because it gives me such a lift when I see it.
And here is another photograph that is enormously important to me. Again, this was the product of a long creative partnership, this time with Libby. Often I use the model’s name as the photograph’s title, but on this occasion I have named it after a place. Nida is a sandy paradise on the Baltic coast near where my wife grew up. It’s where we took our daughter for our first holiday after we almost lost her. For me this print is all about tranquility, the calm after a storm, and peace.
Every photo has a story.
